Pillow Fight 2010
Pillow Fight 2010 is a large-scale fundraising event hosted by Circle K International at UCLA to raise money for abused and neglected children. Held on Sunday, February 7, 2010, the event will bring together UCLA students and participants from all over Southern California for a massive pillow fight. In addition, Pillow Fight 2010 will be offering a variety of activities, performances and celebrities!
Our goal for Pillow Fight 2010 is to raise $3500. $2500 will fund a Free Arts Day for the children, and $1000 will provide art supplies for a month at the Edelman Children's Courthouse.
Free Arts for Abused Children
Since 1977, Free Arts for Abused Children has worked to use the power of the arts to help children who are abused and neglected. During their "Free Arts Days," children can feel free to express themselves and their creativity in a safe, healthy environment. Since their opening, they have developed many other wonderful programs, such as coordinating art activities in the Edmund D. Edelman Children's Courthouse, and Parents and Children Together with Art (PACT), which helps families in crisis bond and learn to communicate with one another.
Circle K at UCLA have been working with Free Arts for Abused Children for several years, participating in many Free Arts Days and many of the other events that Free Arts holds annually.
However, we at Circle K felt that we could do more for this worthy organization. By holding Pillow Fight 2010, we hope to raise enough money to host our very own Free Arts Day, a one-day festival of the arts. Through what we hope to be a long-term partnership, we can develop our very own theme and program for the day, becoming more involved in the improvement of children's lives and the promotion of the arts.
Circle K International at UCLA
Circle K International is the world's largest collegiate service organization. Since 1975, UCLA's chapter has committed itself to the ideals of service, leadership, and fellowship in taking an active role in the community as the premier service club at the university. In 2007, the 100+ members of Circle K at UCLA completed over 11,000 hours of community service and raised over $4,000 for various charitable organizations.
